In this section, we’ll work on defending against a bear hug, specifically when the attacker only holds your torso.
With this type of hug, the attacker holds you by the torso (your hands are free). In this situation, the attacker aims to destabilize you and possibly attempt a takedown that would bring you to the ground.
To avoid this hug, if the opponent is still far away, use a preemptive kick.
Raise your hands and, slightly turning your supporting foot outward, throw a kick targeting the opponent’s most vulnerable areas, such as the groin or knee.

If the attacker is already close, you can prevent the hold by initiating a strike to inflict damage as quickly as possible.
After striking, finish with your usual groin kick, assume a fighting stance, and assess your surroundings.
